Calling Lemmy, Klaus, HHH

I rarely called Lemmy, still not wanting to wear out my welcome, knowing I couldn’t deal with any rejection from him just as it was when I was young.

However I did call him when I was distressed at finding out that Sun, my son, at the age of 16, was addicted to heroin. I didn’t know what to do…

In desperation, I called Lemmy for advice and commiseration, knowing his views on heroin, and that his girlfriend Susan died of an overdose when he was young. He dedicated his autobiography to her saying “she might have been ‘the one’.

Lemmy was sweet and compassionate when I called and he offered to write to Sun, though he didn’t think it would impress him. I treasure that letter, and so appreciate that Lemmy made the kind effort to help. He described me as Sun’s “gentle, looney, kind mother”!

Lemmy was right, though. It didn’t impress Sun enough for him to get out of addiction, though eventually he did overcome.

When Sylvie rather abruptly announced that she was leaving home to go to Boston with her boyfriend Robin, I called Lemmy, and again, he sweetly consoled me, telling me I should pull myself up by my bootstraps and go out and become the new Sarah Bernhardt. Perhaps he was thinking I was being much too emotional and dramatic about it!
Years later Lemmy referenced Sarah Bernhardt when Sylvie and I were waiting outside the venue to come in and I called him complaining. This was an effort on my part to be more normal where Lemmy was concerned rather than being as compliant to him as I alway had been.

“Oh, don’t be Sarah Bernhardt! It’s crazy back here. It will be better if you come backstage after the show when things calm down. I share a birthday with Sarah Bernhardt. I loved that he would liken me to her!

You would think a band like Motörhead would have hoards of “groupies” desperate to get in and to sleep with the band, but I never found that to be the case when I’d go to see Lemmy. I was often the only one visiting.

I assumed the thousands of women Lemmy is said tgo have slept with must have been elsewhere or in the earlier Motorhead days or in the hippy days of Hawkwind.

Klaus, Motorhead’s number one fan said “Oh no, that is not the case. I could tell you stories!” And he would know since he’s been to Motorhead shows all over the world.

I met Klaus in Worcester, MA and we would see each other at shows over the years. On that first meeting their tour manager at the time offered Klaus and I personalized tags. Klaus must hold the record for how many times anyone has seen Motorhead. At more than 400 shows, for Klaus it is a true passion.

He’s traveled from Germany around the world to see them, and has gone as far as LA, Chile and Buenos Aires. He stays in touch with Motor-friends around the world, and travels to see Mickey with “Scorpions”, and Phil with his band “Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons”

Klaus is an unusual one with his thick German accent and wild blond hair, always dressed in rock and roll gear, and impeccable in manner and presentation.
Apart from Motorhead shows, Klaus and I have met up in London, Brighton, Ireland, and Budapest. We travel well together. After Lemmy died we met up in Ireland. Holding hands, melding our Motorhead rings, we reminisced about Lemmy and our mutual love of him.

In New Hampshire it was only me, Triple HHH and Stephanie McMahon, the professional wrestlers with WWE. That was pretty unexpected and fun! I saw them again in New York at the Roseland Ballroom. They were lovely people. I’m sorry to see that they are now aligned with the present corrupt and inhumane regime in our country.

Lemmy did a brilliant entrance theme song for Triple HHH called “The Game”. A friend won 4 tickets from a radio station to a wrestling event in Springfield at that time but she had no interest so I said I’d like to have them. Tom was thrilled, and we took my nephews to the event. It was an interesting experience, going to a wrestling extravaganza, though I was only there to hear Lemmy singing “The Game”. I waited expectantly as Triple HHH came into the ring. Unfortunately, just before he was about to enter, the power went out! What a letdown that was for me. Still, Tom and the boys were happy and excited to be there so it wasn’t for naught.
